On the heels of a bitter song

It's only for love that I lingered
Only for love that I left
In those hard blue days of horror
Of love by love bereft

That was the joke in the twilight
And a riddle hung ripe in the rain
Where God knows you never expected
To have a damn thing to explain

It's only for love I was angry
Only for love I was wrong
Only for love I was set free
To sing one last love song

I love you outside of a riddle
I love you upside of a cross
I love you in ribbons and tatters
In echoes, and dreams, and loss

For love is tried in darkness
And held complete in one
And love walks on beside you
No matter where you run
