Michael and Lara's Wedding Song

©2009 Andrew Calhoun

A seedling gripped the mountainside
And opened roots and branches wide
To sun and water, earth and air
Till all could see it standing there
And soon the tree became a home
To some who nest and some who roam
Though many feasted on its leaves
Leaves were left to shelter these

A young man cut into the bark
In hopeless love to leave a mark
He carved a name with priestly care
Till all could see it written there
A woman came up to the tree
As if in curiosity
That she was welcome in its shade
That such a home the shadows made

An eagle landed on its way
To sit and grasp a limb and sway
He cocked his head to hear a song
Direction for the journey long
"In the long dark night I take you
Where the fury cannot break you
Ever dancing with the wind
From the moving heart within"

As earth needs water, fire needs air
Love calls us to embark with her
As two clasp hands beneath the tree
And stand in love for all to see
