Andrew & Casey
Zozo

Zozo

ZOZO is an acoustic/electric folk band incorporating the talents of Andrew Calhoun, songwriter, vocals and guitar; Casey Calhoun, vocals and dance, Gary Cleland, acoustic bass; and Victor Sanders, lead guitar. They debuted at Fitzgerald's sidebar in May 2010, and are putting their eclectic repertoire to work in the Chicago Area.

Zozo is fronted by veteran Chicago area folk artist Andrew Calhoun and his daughter Casey, whose pure, distinctive voice takes the lead on songs by artists from Anais Mitchell to Dave Carter to Pink Floyd, from folk to pop to swing, and adds new dimensions of harmony and call-and-response to originals, Irish and Scottish ballads and American spirituals.

Casey Calhoun, an accomplished dancer, often dances the breaks of songs to Victor Sanders' ever-evolving leads. Casey has studied dance at Dance Center Evanston, Gus Giordano Dance Studio, and Cornish School of the Arts in Seattle. Andrew has toured internationally, performing at clubs and festivals, pubs and house concerts. His recordings have been released on Hogeye, Flying Fish and Waterbug Records.

Victor Sanders (electric guitar)
Guitarist, composer, recording engineer and producer Victor Sanders was a founding member of Care of the Cow, an Electro-folk ensemble (1972-1982), sharing stages with Tom Waits, Steve Goodman, Ben Sidran and Tom Rush. He toured with Straightface, a pop-rock band, from 1983-1986. His jazz-fusion group "Night on Earth," co-founded with Bob Long, was signed to Bart records (1995-1997). He currently performs with "Very Small Quartet," playing in collaboration with spoken word artists, and composes music for modern dance. Victor's playing balances a playful imagination with boundless musical and technical knowledge. It's not just the pedal board which creates sounds you've never heard before-- it's the ability to add just what each song needs.

Gary Cleland - bass
A lifelong Chicagoan, Gary is classically trained. He studied at the Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University, as well as privately, with current and former members of the Chicago Symphony and Lyric Opera, with noted professionals such as Warren Benefield, Joe Guasafeste, Jim Palacek and Brian Ferguson. Early in his career, Gary performed in the Chicago Lyric Opera, Basically Bach Baroque Ensemble, number of the city and regional symphonic orchestras, various music ensembles, including pit orchestras for many of the musicals that came through Chicago's top-rated theaters. The classical music background has benefited his extremely varied tastes in music today. From a world folk ensemble, pop bands, a folk music ensemble, this seems to suit the many styles of music he stays involved with.
